The Legal Education Group for Future Aggie Law Students (LEGALS) is an undergraduate student organization designed to instruct and prepare students, as future lawyers, in the type of logical reasoning required for law school or professional school, by preparation and competition in Moot Court and Mock Trial.  The organization is made up of approximately 100 active members.  Membership is open to all undergraduate students at Texas A&M who wish to participate on a team.   For more information about joining LEGALS, click the "Join" button above.

Mock Trial is an extracurricular activity which provides undergraduate students the opportunity to compete on a national level.

Students learn first hand about the work of trial attorneys, understand the judicial system, develop critical thinking skills, and enhance communication skills.

LEGALS typically attends 4 - 5 tournaments a year.  Tournaments consist of trials between prosecution (or plaintiff) and defense teams. Each team consists of 6-8 members, six of whom will actually compete at any given time (three as attorneys, three as witnesses). Each trial focuses on a single case which governs competition for the entire year, alternating annually between a criminal or civil legal issue.  Each trial is judged by 1-3 practicing lawyers or law students.

Collegiate Mock Trial has been coordinated on a national level since its founding in 1984 by the American Mock Trial Association.

.
Moot Court is also an undergraduate extracurricular activity that allows students to participate in state and national competitions.

Moot court is a a simulation of an appellate court proceeding.  It's also known as
mock Supreme Court and Supreme Court Simulation. Moot Court involves teams of student-contestants, clients burdened by a legal problem, briefs and oratory detailing the dimensions of the legal problem before an appellate court, and the judging of performances by panels of students, attorneys, law faculty, or, on occasion, members of the judicial branch of government.

Students compete in teams of two.  Each team members speaks to a particular argument.
